Ultrafast spectroscopy stands as an indispensable tool in several academic and scientific disciplines, including physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science. In this presentation, I will detail the latest advancements from our team at Victoria University of Wellington, specifically highlighting two basic ultrafast spectroscopy methods: transient absorption and ultrafast photoluminescence. Through the integration of innovative approaches and the latest ultrafast light sources, we have achieved notable improvements in system capabilities such as enhanced detection bandwidth, sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, and time resolution.
First, the focus will be on Multiple Plate Continuum Generation based Transient Absorption (MPC-TA).1 By leveraging an ultrashort supercontinuum source of remarkable brightness, MPC-TA offers a revolutionary platform for pump-probe spectroscopy, characterised by its broad probe spectrum and unparalleled temporal precision, making it invaluable for studying photoexcitation dynamics.
Next, I will introduce our patented technique, Transient Grating Photoluminescence Spectroscopy (TGPLS).2 By synergising with high-power femtosecond light sources, TGPLS efficiently captures sub-picosecond transient emission spanning from UV to NIR regions. Therefore, it emerges as a premier tool for the investigation of advanced light-emitting materials, providing crucial data on photochemistry processes at ultrafast time scales.
Applications of these newly developed techniques will also be presented.

陈铠(Kai Chen),男,新西兰惠灵顿维多利亚大学(Victoria University of Wellington)Robinson研究所高级科学家,MacDiarmid先进材料与纳米技术研究所和Dodd-Walls光子与量子技术中心副研究员。本科,National Tsing Hua University,物理学; 硕士,National Tsing Hua University,电子工程;博士,Victoria University of Wellington,物理学。主要从事光学表征技术和光电材料的研究。开发了多种超快光谱技术并将其应用于研究多种先进材料,如有机半导体、分子材料、半导体量子点和钙钛矿。在Robinson研究所担任高级科学家期间,通过自研的专利技术在先进材料研究领域取得了显著进展,解决了传统方法的局限。作为Advemto Ltd.的联合创始人,将超快光谱专利技术商业化。科研项目方面,在超快激光、光谱技术和材料科学方面的丰富的专业知识取得了优秀的学术成果,目前在Nature Chemistry、Journal of the American Chemical Society、Advanced Materials、Nature Communications、ACS Nano和Nano Energy等高影响力期刊上发表论文30篇,论文总引用次数为2700次,H指数为25。
