This lecture will introduce the framework for accelerating green and climate-resilient financing in Pakistan. In addition, the lecture also highlights the significant need for climate finance in Pakistan to tackle climate threats and drive a low-carbon growth path. Briefly explains the need to understand where finance is currently flowing in Pakistan and where it needs to be directed. However, despite Pakistan’s severe climate vulnerabilities, there is a disproportionate focus on financing low-carbon mitigation projects, relative to adaptation and resilience. Also highlights key findings and recommendations from the comprehensive “Accelerating Green and Climate Resilient Financing in Pakistan” study.

Dr. Adeela Rustam
Dr. Adeela is an Associate professor of Management Sciences with the Department of Management Sciences, COMSATS University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Holding a Post-doctorate and Ph.D. degree in Management Science and Engineering from the College of Economics and Management, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, PR China. She has more than 22 research articles published in the top ten (Q1) SSCI, SCI, SCIE Journals including Journal of Cleaner Production, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Applied Economics, Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management, Review of Socio-Economic Perspectives. She is also serving as an academic referee for top ten journals of environment, economics and management including Applied Economics, Business Strategy and Environment, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, IEEE, Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance, Business Strategy and Environment. Her articles are ranked among the most cited research from her department. She has collaborated in multiple research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Humanities and Social Sciences Foundation of the Ministry of Education of China. She has researched different topics. Her research interests include diversified topics such as corporate sustainability disclosure, sustainable governance regimes, digital sustainable governance, digital economy, green investment, green financing, digital green supply chain management transition, green acquisition investment, green development, CPEC investment and ecological sustainability nexus in BRI perspective, green infrastructure, green recycling and waste management strategies, ecological sustainability and corporate business ethics disclosure.

This study aims to assess how ecological performance is influenced by critical factors, comprising digital transformation, green financing, and energy efficiency. This study provides novel insights into the ecological performance of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) economies by using panel data from 1990 to 2022. The research highlights and contributes to the literature on the role of different drivers in enhancing ecological performance in BRI economies. The panel data techniques employed in this study include cross-sectional dependencies (CD), Pooled Mean Group-Autoregressive Distributed Lag (PMG-ARDL), DOLS, and FMOLS method. The study outcomes emphasize both short and long-run ecological issues in BRI economies and provide a way forward for sustaining long-run ecological performance.

Dr. Ghulam Abbas is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Department of Business Administration (AACSB Accredited), Sukkur IBA University. With over 16 years of dedicated affiliation with Sukkur IBA University, he has been a stalwart figure in academia and administration alike. Currently serving as the in charge of the Financial Trade Center and the manager of the Students' Endowment Fund (SEF), he exhibits exceptional leadership and managerial skills.
He earned his doctoral degree in Management Science and Engineering from the School of Economics and Management (AACSB & AMBA Accredited), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, in 2017. Dr. Abbas has continually pursued excellence in both his academic and professional endeavors. His illustrious journey is adorned with numerous accolades, including the esteemed CAS-TWAS President Fellowship in 2013, and recognition as the Governor's best student awardee during his MBA program in 2007.
His research interests span asset pricing, financial economics, financial econometrics, financial analysis & forecasting, corporate financial sustainability, fintech & cryptocurrency market, and interest-free microcredit and its sustainability. He has published his work in the various peer-reviewed journals, both nationally and internationally, and actively reviews the submissions of good quality journals such as International Journal Finance and Economics, Economic Modelling, China Finance Review International, International Review of Economics and Finance, Resources Policy, and Cogent of Economics and Finance etc.

Dr. Abdullah Bin Omar completed his PhD degree in the field of Banking & Finance from Universiti Utara Malaysia in 2018 complemented by a Master’s in Finance. Currently, he is serving as an Assistant Professor of Accounting & Finance at Emerson University, Multan (Pakistan). With over 15 years of extensive teaching and administrative experience across various undergraduate and postgraduate educational institutes, he dedicated his career to advancing knowledge in finance, accounting, and financial economics. His academic journey includes more than 15 research publications, many of which are in internationally recognized high-impact journals, reflecting his commitment to contributing to scholarly discourse and practical advancements in his field. In addition to that, currently he is having an additional charge of Deputy Registrar at Emerson University, Multan along with other teaching responsibilities. His research interests are diverse, encompassing finance, accounting, and economics, where he continually works on multiple papers aimed at publication in esteemed academic journals.
